Event Logistics Support Intern – International Civil Society Week
CIVICUS is inviting passionate, driven, and globally-minded individuals to be part of its mission by applying for a remote Internship for International Civil Society Week (ICSW). With a generous monthly stipend of USD 1200, this opportunity is not only a stepping stone into the international development sector, but also a chance to directly contribute to one of the world’s largest gatherings of civil society actors.
About CIVICUS: Strengthening Citizen Action Worldwide
CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation is a global alliance of over 15,000 members in more than 175 countries. Established in 1993, the organisation advocates for civil society freedoms and citizen participation, amplifying voices that often go unheard. CIVICUS believes that a strong, independent, and active civil society is essential for a thriving, just, and equitable world.
Whether advocating for press freedom, supporting social justice movements, or defending the right to peaceful assembly, CIVICUS places solidarity, diversity, and justice at the heart of its work. Interning with CIVICUS means being part of a powerful and diverse community committed to social transformation.
What is ICSW?
International Civil Society Week (ICSW) is CIVICUS’ flagship global event — a platform that brings together civil society leaders, activists, academics, and changemakers from every corner of the globe. ICSW is more than just a conference; it’s a celebration of collaboration, innovation, and resistance. Held biennially, ICSW focuses on building alliances across sectors, sharing strategies for change, and co-creating solutions to pressing global challenges.
The upcoming edition of ICSW is expected to be a hybrid model, blending in-person and virtual engagements to ensure accessibility and inclusion. The event offers a unique opportunity to shape global civil society narratives and actions at a time when democratic spaces are shrinking in many parts of the world.
The Role
As the remote Event Logistics Support Intern for ICSW, you will work closely with the South Africa-based CIVICUS Events and Operations teams to support the planning, coordination, and implementation of International Civil Society Week. You will need a passion for learning, advanced skills in Excel, precise attention to detail, and a strong personality with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This internship is not your typical administrative and logistics role — it’s designed to offer real responsibility, creative freedom, and the chance to make a tangible impact.
Key responsibilities include:
• Support critical event logistics, including maintaining staff and participant travel databases in Excel, monitoring travel requests, and supporting with event administration.
• Act as internal (CIVICUS) event liaison between the travel team and staff coordinating events at ICSW using MS Outlook and Teams, and internal communications platforms.
• Monitor event payments and budget allocations, including maintaining a payments tracker in Excel.
• Support monitoring and reporting efforts to document and evaluate the event for reporting to funders, internally and to participants.
Why this Internship is a unique opportunity
Here are just a few reasons why this internship stands out in a crowded field of international opportunities:
Remote flexibility with global reach: This is a fully remote position, allowing candidates from Africa or Europe regions to apply, provided they have reliable internet access and can work across time zones. You’ll be part of a truly international team and work on a project that impacts thousands globally.
Competitive stipend: Internships are often criticised for being unpaid or underpaid. CIVICUS counters this trend by offering a monthly stipend of USD 1200, ensuring interns can support themselves while gaining professional experience.
Meaningful, mission-driven work: At CIVICUS, you’re not fetching coffee or making copies. Interns are valued contributors who play an integral part in programme execution and strategy. Your voice matters, and your contributions will help shape a globally significant event.
Professional growth: From gaining project management skills to learning about digital event tools, international development, and stakeholder engagement, this internship is designed to be a launchpad for your career. You will also be mentored by seasoned professionals and connected to a global network of civil society actors.
Ideal candidate: Who should apply?
CIVICUS is looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about civil society and global issues.
