Job Purpose

The Humanitarian Access and Security Assistant supports IYD’s operations in Syria assisting in the implementation of safety, security, and humanitarian access measures. The role ensures effective monitoring of field conditions, incident reporting, access facilitation, and implementation of security protocols. The assistant will provide timely information and logistical support to allow staff and programs to operate safely and maintain access to communities in volatile environments. The position will be based in Darra.

Key Responsibilities

  • Incident Reporting & Monitoring
  1. Collect, verify, and submit timely incident reports from the field to the Safety and Security Coordinator.
  2. Maintain and update the security incidents database and mapping system.
  3. Track safety-related incidents and access developments in Northwest Syria, including risks linked to non-state actors and conflict dynamics.
  • Access Facilitation & Stakeholder Liaison
  1. Support in liaising with local authorities, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate humanitarian access.
  2. Provide field-level information to ensure IYD teams can maintain safe access to project sites.
  3. Monitor and report challenges related to checkpoints, area restrictions, or security policies affecting operations.
  • Support to Security Systems & SOPs
  1. Assist in implementing IYD’s Security Management Plans, Contingency Plans, and SOPs.
  2. Ensure equipment and communications tools (phones, radios, trackers) are functioning and available to staff.
  3. Conduct routine checks on safety measures at IYD offices, guesthouses, and warehouses.
  • Training & Awareness
  1. Support periodic staff briefings and inductions on security and access procedures.
  2. Promote adherence to safety measures including COVID-19 precautions.
  • Coordination & Documentation
  1. Participate in regular meetings with security focal points and field staff.
  2. Document and archive all security and access-related correspondence, reports, and updates.
  3. Provide administrative and logistical support to the Safety and Security Coordinator as needed.
  • Other Duties
  1. Perform additional tasks assigned within the scope of the role to support overall organizational safety and access goals.

Qualifications

**Essential:**

  • Bachelor’s degree in security, political science, international relations, or related fields.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in humanitarian access and security in NGO/INGO settings.
  • Good knowledge of humanitarian principles and operational contexts in Syria.
  • Strong reporting and analytical skills.
  • Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, mapping tools).

**Desirable:**

  • Experience working directly with communities and local authorities in conflict settings.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian security frameworks.
  • English and Arabic language skills (both written and spoken).
