Description

Country Director Mexico

The starting salary package for this position is £54,324 GBP per annum / approx. $73,440 USD including all allowances.

About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the Mexico programme:

MAG is launching a new programme in Mexico to address the devastating impact of armed violence, conflict, and the proliferation of small arms and light weapons. As this is a start-up programme, MAG is looking to build a strong foundation that will enable long-term impact and sustainability. The role will be critical in establishing MAG’s presence in the country—developing relationships with authorities, donors, and partners; identifying priority locations; and setting up operational and management systems that align with MAG’s mission and values.

About the role:

As Country Director, you will provide strategic leadership and serve as MAG’s primary representative in Mexico, ensuring strong oversight and the effective delivery of high-quality programme activities. You will be accountable to MAG HQ for the set-up, implementation, and management of the country programme, including robust monitoring and evaluation. This role requires the effective integration of strategic, programmatic, and operational functions to ensure that all activities remain relevant, consistent, and aligned with MAG’s standards of quality and impact.

About you:

We are seeking a confident and experienced leader with a proven track record in establishing and managing international programmes. You will bring strong expertise in project management, business development, and donor relations, as well as the ability to lead and inspire multidisciplinary and multicultural teams in complex environments. Above all, you should be proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in a start-up environment, with the determination to build a programme that reflects MAG’s values of integrity, compassion, expertise, inclusivity, and determination.

Fluency in Spanish and English is essential along with a genuine commitment to MAG’s humanitarian values. The knowledge of the Latin American context is highly desirable
