About Amal Organization for Relief and Development:

Amal is a non-profit Syrian non-governmental organization established to provide life-saving aid and services to the most vulnerable people, strengthening their resilience, advocating for their basic rights, and also contributing to providing recovery and revitalization programs for societies that war-torned.
Amal Organization is a relief and development organization, was established in early 2013 and the organization was licensed and registered in Turkey – Gaziantep on 6/6/2014

Purpose of the Position:

To lead the implementation of the Wildfire/DRR Component within the Fruit Trees and Forest Resilience Project in Douma and Latakia. The Team Leader is responsible for planning, technical supervision, and administration of firebreak opening, ecological forest rehabilitation, operation of the women-led forest nursery, and coordinating and monitoring trainings delivered to seasonal workers and community-based organizations (CBOs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate all Wildfire/DRR Component activities across the targeted sites.
  • Plan and supervise firebreak opening and reinforcement with fire-resistant species in close coordination with local authorities, the Directorate of Agriculture, and Civil Defense.
  • Oversee ecological restoration works including removal of residues, regenerative pruning, and planting of native fire-resistant species.
  • Supervise operations of the Hanadi forest nursery with the women’s team, ensuring quality production and effective management of planting and care processes.
  • Coordinate and monitor trainings for seasonal workers and CBO members delivered by specialized trainers/consultants on environmental and preventive measures.
  • Ensure occupational health, safety, and environmental protection standards during all field activities.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports and submit to the Project Manager in coordination with the MEAL department.
  • Manage field data and performance indicators related to production, rehabilitation activities, and community participation.
  • Support community awareness efforts about forest importance and wildfire prevention and coordinate the installation of signboards at target sites.

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in Agricultural Engineering / Forestry / Environment / Disaster Risk Management or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in forest management, disaster risk reduction, or ecosystem rehabilitation.
  • Proven knowledge in firebreak construction and maintenance, reforestation, and forest nursery operations.
  • Experience managing field teams and coordinating with local authorities and communities.
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills including data entry and indicator tracking.
  • Good computer skills (MS Office – Excel – Word – PowerPoint).
  • Previous experience with NGOs or development projects is an asset.
