 Grants & Fundraising Consultant Opportunity at Hewa Nexus

At Hewa Nexus, we’re on a mission to empower African SMEs, NGOs, corporates and communities to measure, reduce, and report their climate impact. We’re developing Hewa360, our flagship innovation, a carbon management tool that makes sustainability actionable, and we need a Grants & Fundraising Consultant to help us secure the funding that will fuel our pilot and scale our MVP.

 What You’ll Do

  • Identify and research relevant grants, climate funds, and donor opportunities (both local and global).
  • Craft compelling proposals and well-structured budgets.
  • Support donor reporting, compliance, and accountability.
  • Advise on our fundraising strategy to help shape long-term growth.

 Compensation

  • Performance-based success bonus: 8–10% of funds secured.
  •  Opportunity to transition into a longer-term strategic role as we scale.

 What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in grant writing or fundraising for startups, NGOs, or impact-driven ventures.
  • Strong knowledge of the climate and social impact funding landscape.
  • Excellent proposal writing, budgeting, and donor communication skills.
  • A genuine passion for sustainability, innovation, and climate impact.

 Core Competencies

  • Grant Writing & Proposal Development: Successful track record with international/local donors, ability to align with climate and sustainability priorities, and strong storytelling.
  • Fundraising Strategy & Donor Engagement: Experience designing fundraising strategies, cultivating donor relationships, and navigating diverse funding sources (foundations, CSR, venture philanthropy, climate funds).
  • Financial & Budgeting: Skilled at preparing budgets, ensuring donor compliance, and integrating financial plans with project goals.
  • Research & Mapping: Ability to spot and match opportunities with organizational needs across the climate-tech ecosystem.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Management: Exceptional writing, presentation, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.

Industry Expertise

  • Climate & Sustainability: Familiar with carbon markets, ESG, sustainability frameworks (SDGs, Paris Agreement, Net Zero).
  • Tech & SaaS (bonus): Background in fundraising for SaaS or tech-enabled solutions is a plus.
  • Fundraising Ecosystem: Knowledge of Africa/global South donor networks, climate finance actors, and grant-making institutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in International Development, Environmental Studies, Business, Communications, or related fields.
  • 5+ years’ experience in grant writing and fundraising (NGOs, social enterprises, or climate-tech startups).
  • Demonstrated success in securing mid-to-large grants (> $100k).
  • Familiarity with grant management tools (Fluxx, Grant Station, Foundation Directory, Salesforce for Nonprofits, etc.).
  • Certifications such as CFRE or project management credentials are a strong plus.
