About the Project

This project contributes to stabilization and violence prevention in Iraq by engaging journalists, artists, and government representatives from reconciliation-focused entities to co-create media and art productions that foster social cohesion and promote constructive narratives.

The project includes capacity-building workshops for journalists and artists, a specialized digital media mentorship program for institutional representatives to develop strategic communication campaigns on reconciliation themes, and public exhibitions of community murals and stories. The initiative aims to strengthen peace-oriented storytelling, equip both media professionals and government actors with tools to effectively communicate unity and reconciliation messages, and drive positive narratives within communities.

Position Overview

MiCT seeks an experienced Journalism Mentor & Trainer to lead in-person and hybrid training and mentorship activities with journalists, artists, and representatives from government entities focused on reconciliation and peacebuilding.

The Mentor will deliver workshops on feature writing, digital journalism, conflict-sensitive reporting, and transitional justice storytelling, while providing hands-on mentoring during the production of multimedia and artistic outputs. A key component of this role includes designing and delivering a 3-month digital media mentorship program for government representatives, focusing on social media campaign strategy, content creation, and strategic communication for reconciliation messaging.

This role combines editorial mentorship, digital storytelling expertise, social media campaign training, and cross-disciplinary collaboration with artists and civil society actors.

  • Design and implement a 3-month digital media mentorship program (20 specialized online sessions) for government representatives, covering social media campaign strategy, content creation, graphic design, audience engagement, and reconciliation messaging.
  • Mentor participating journalists and artists in developing and producing high-quality multimedia and cross-sector stories that reflect reconciliation and violence prevention themes.
  • Guide participants in ethical and conflict-sensitive reporting, ensuring all outputs uphold accuracy, balance, and fairness.
  • Support artists and media creators in developing storytelling techniques that translate complex social issues into accessible public narratives.
  • Collaborate with MiCT's Project Consultant, Media Mentors, and local partners to align training content with project goals.
  • Contribute to the design of digital training materials, social media campaign templates, editorial guidelines, and learning resources.
  • Participate in project events, exhibitions, and follow-up coaching sessions.
  • Provide feedback and documentation on participant progress, challenges, and story outcomes for internal reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in journalism, media, communications, digital marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in journalism, digital media production, or editorial management.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering digital media training, including social media strategy, content creation, and campaign management.
