With ongoing operations in some of the world’s most complex legal and security environments, Global Rights Compliance continues to provide specialized legal expertise, policy solutions, and strategic advisory services to uphold justice and strengthen the rule of law globally.

About the Team

GRC is implementing DPRK-focused projects with local and international partners, aimed at investigating and uncovering the structures and networks of state-sponsored forced labour affecting North Korean nationals, as well as incidents of transnational repression committed by the DPRK regime globally. The GRC DPRK team delivers specialised documentation, legal analysis, capacity building, engagement and advocacy initiatives through the projects to promote accountability for North Korean survivors.

We are seeking a Junior OSINT Researcher to conduct open-source investigations and research using a variety of tools and techniques that provide actionable intelligence. The Junior OSINT Researcher will have experience conducting open-source investigations and knowledge of international humanitarian law and international criminal law.

Full-time/Part-time: Full-time

Location: Remote

The Role:

  • Assist in the collection of information for investigative purposes, with a specific focus on OSINT.
  • Preserve open-source material collected by the team in line with best practices and standards.
  • Assist in drafting project deliverables.
  • Support the preparation of training and events.
  • Carry out any other task related to the smooth implementation of investigative, research, and project deliverables.

Your Background:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience with open-source investigations and research.
  • Bachelor of law or related field (e.g. journalism, politics, public policy etc) mandatory; advanced studies in public international law, ideally with a focus on international human rights law or international criminal law, desirable.
  • Experience researching, documenting or investigating international crimes and/or human rights violations using open sources.
  • Experience drafting reports and investigative findings.
  • Experience working on forced labour, transnational repression, or other cross-border human rights violations, specifically committed by Russia or North Korea, is highly desired.
  • Prior experience working on North Korean context, highly desired.
  • Practical experience working with highly sensitive material and an ability to demonstrate the skills in storing, sharing, and working with such material in line with ethical and best practice standards.
  • Self-starter: can be given a ‘desired outcome’ and figure out the action areas required to reach it with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible and creative; able to work in an unstructured, changeable & fast-moving environment; proactive; anticipating problems and solutions orientated.
  • Practical thinker, able to break down and pursue the elements required to operationalise an investigative strategy.
  • Administratively competent; able to manage competing urgent demands.
  • Fluency in English and Russian, both written and verbal skills.
