Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to protect children by preventing and stopping child exploitation and by empowering children to make their voices heard. Terre des Hommes focuses on ending (online) child sexual exploitation and child labor, including in crisis situations. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes develops and implements projects and programs through local partners, primarily in Asia, Africa, and Europe.

The Function:
We are seeking a Strategic Director of Engagement to lead our external engagement, fundraising, and communications. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for positioning Terre des Hommes Netherlands as a reliable, visible, and mission-driven children's rights organization.
You will develop and implement integrated strategies for fundraising, brand positioning, communications, and public engagement. This role is ideal for a dynamic leader with a proven track record in resource mobilization, strategic communications, and stakeholder management.
Main Responsibilities:
Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy for sustainable growth and impact;
Strategic management of fundraising, communications, retail and digital channels;
Represent Terre des Hommes externally to donors, partners, networks and the media;
Ensure that all external communications reflect our mission and values;
Achieving revenue, engagement and brand visibility goals;
Inspiring and mobilizing volunteers, shops and the Shop Council;
Leading and developing the Engagement team, stimulating innovation and collaboration;
Oversee brand management, marketing and supporter engagement;
Developing new funding streams, partnerships and sponsorship;
Close collaboration with the Impact and Operations departments;
Ensure sound financial, risk and contract management.
What are you bringing?
Ability to translate mission and impact into compelling engagement strategies;
Experience with high-level representation with donors, government or media;
Knowledge of children's rights, international development or humanitarian contexts;
Extensive experience in fundraising and donor diversification;
Successful acquisition of multi-year funding from major donors and institutional partners;
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills;
Experience with innovation in fundraising and engagement;
Expertise in digital transformation and data-driven decision-making;
Knowledge of new fundraising models, digital marketing and target group analysis;
Leadership in organizational change and continuous improvement;
Fluent Dutch and English, both spoken and written.

The salary scale for this position is scale 14 and, depending on experience, ranges from €5,452.20 to €7,399.80 gross per month for a full-time working week of 36 hours.
We offer a 36-hour per week contract
25 days of paid leave per year based on full-time employment, with pro rata leave for part-time days;
We work a hybrid system, meaning 50% in the office and 50% from home. We're quite flexible and consider your work-life balance;
An office in the thriving heart of The Hague, city of international human rights and political capital.
We offer a commuting allowance for the kilometers you travel by bike or provide an NS card;
Our pension plan is managed by ASR and Terre des Hommes contributes the majority of the pension contribution.
