Job Title: Team Leader/Principal Investigator

Department/Location: Remote; possibly 7-8 days overseas

Reports To: Vice President

Type: Consultant, Estimated LOE 55-60 days, February/March-June/July 2026

Overview: The Team Leader (TL) provides overall leadership, technical direction, and quality assurance for the evaluation. The TL is responsible for ensuring quality, methodological rigor, coherence across workstreams, effective stakeholder engagement, and timely delivery of all required outputs to Unitaid. The TL oversees all core team members, country consultants, and research staff.

Their responsibilities will include:

Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Technical Direction
    • Lead the design and implementation of the evaluation in alignment with the OECD-DAC criteria and Unitaid’s strategic and learning agendas.
    • Oversee development of the inception report, evaluation matrix, theory of change (TOC), sampling strategies, rubrics, and data collection tools.
    • Ensure integration of mixed-methods, realist, and participatory approaches throughout the evaluation.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for Unitaid’s M&E Manager and Secretariat.
    • Facilitate inception meetings, weekly coordination calls, and feedback sessions.
    • Lead the co-creation workshop to co-develop recommendations with Unitaid and partners.
  1. Quality Assurance and Oversight
    • Review all deliverables for methodological quality, technical accuracy, and clarity.
    • Provide oversight to country consultants and ensure alignment of fieldwork and remote interviews to the evaluation framework.
    • Manage risks, adapt the workplan as needed, and ensure compliance with Unitaid’s carbon footprint and ethical standards.
  2. Analysis and Reporting
    • Lead synthesis of cross-country findings and overarching conclusions.
    • Guide, draft, and finalize the first draft, second draft, and final evaluation report with inputs from the team members and in coordination with Unitaid.
    • Ensure actionable, pragmatic, and evidence-based recommendations.
  1. Presentations
    • Present findings to Unitaid, implementing partners, and stakeholder groups, including the final virtual presentation.

  • Final Evaluation Report and presentation slides

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years leading multi-country global health evaluations
  • Strong expertise in women’s health, SRH, HIV contexts, and LMIC program evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience with ToC, realist evaluation, mixed-methods, and learning-oriented evaluation
  • Exceptional facilitation and communication skills

Education: An advanced degree in a relevant field across the social sciences

Working Environment: Work is performed in a typical corporate office environment or remotely.

Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position that required the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Travel: 10% travel is required.

Work Authorization: Candidate must be authorized to work in the country of residence.
