Job Title: Light Touch Evaluation Case Study, Local Research Associate Consultant – Nigeria

Department/Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Reports To: Evaluation Specialist / Vice President

Overview: The Nigeria Research Associate will collect targeted qualitative and contextual data on HPV testing introduction and cervical cancer service delivery across selected states. Nigeria’s decentralized health governance and diverse population require a focused assessment of operational realities, referral pathways, and equity considerations.

Their responsibilities will include:

Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Review cervical cancer policies, screening guidelines, state-level implementation documents, and Unitaid-supported reports.
  • Conduct interviews with Federal Ministry of Health, state health authorities, implementing partners, facility managers, and women’s health advocates.
  • Gather targeted insights on provider capacity, sample transport constraints, treatment access, and health worker training.
  • Document equity considerations affecting women in rural or low-resource settings, including cost, stigma, and travel burdens.
  • Provide a concise synthesis of contextual factors that shape HPV testing uptake and service delivery performance.
  • Prepare a Nigeria country brief (4–6 pages) aligned with the evaluation matrix.

Qualifications

  • Degree in public health, health economics, sociology, or related field.
  • Strong familiarity with Nigeria’s state and federal health systems and PHC structures.
  • Fluency in English required; Hausa, Yoruba, or Igbo proficiency preferred depending on state context.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct interviews with multisectoral stakeholders.
  • 8-15 years of experience with women’s health, SRH, or NCD programs preferred.
  • Strong qualitative analysis and writing skills.

Education: An advanced degree in a relevant field across the social sciences

Working Environment: Work is performed in a typical corporate office environment or remotely.

Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position that required the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Travel: N/A

Work Authorization: Candidate must be authorized to work in the country of residence.
