We are looking for a Co-Lead Economist / Senior Economic Expert for a study to be delivered for the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on parasitic copying (look-alikes, copycats and duplicates).
The assignment will examine the economic impact of look-alike and duplicate products across the EU, including affected sectors, market trends, consumer behaviour, sources of origin, distribution channels, online and offline marketing practices, and the role of influencers and digital environments. The work will contribute to an EU-wide study combining economic and legal analysis.
Minimum requirements
- Proven academic background in economics
- At least 5 years of experience in economic data analysis and/or market research
- Strong experience in qualitative and quantitative research
- Demonstrated ability to work with surveys, interviews, desk research and economic/statistical analysis
- Excellent drafting and synthesis skills in English
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Economics or a closely related field
- Experience in consumer behaviour, retail markets, e-commerce, competition-related analysis, IP-intensive sectors or regulatory studies
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary research teams
- Familiarity with EU-wide studies and cross-country analytical work
Main tasks
- Lead the economic component of the study
- Guide methodology for data collection and analysis
- Supervise surveys, interviews, market analysis and economic modelling inputs
- Contribute to interim and final reports
- Participate in online kick-off and monthly progress meetings
