Description

Live and volunteer as part of a local community in Mukono District, Uganda.

This is not a typical volunteer placement. At Ssamba Foundation, everything is based at the Kibiribiri Community Hub, where volunteers take part in structured, day-to-day activities alongside local teams.

Instead of moving between projects, you stay in one place—building real connections and contributing to ongoing community work.

WHAT MAKES THIS EXPERIENCE DIFFERENT

Most volunteer programs are short-term and scattered.

We are not.

Our model is built around:

  • One community, not multiple locations
  • Structured daily involvement
  • Long-term, locally-led programs
  • Real relationships and shared routines

This creates a more grounded, meaningful experience for volunteers and the community alike.

WHAT YOU’LL BE INVOLVED IN

Volunteers support ongoing work across:

Education: Assist with learning activities and daily school life at the local community school

Women’s Empowerment: Engage with skills training and livelihood initiatives

Community & Environment: Take part in sustainability efforts and local projects

No specific experience is required—just openness, respect, and willingness to contribute.

A STRUCTURED DAILY EXPERIENCE

  • Morning: School and field activities
  • Afternoon: Community and women’s programs
  • Evening: Reflection and connection

This is a guided but flexible experience, designed to give you both purpose and time to adjust.

LIVING & SUPPORT

Volunteers stay in simple, shared accommodation within the community.

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Airport pickup
  • Orientation and local support
  • Ongoing guidance throughout your stay

You will be supported throughout your experience by a local team.

CURRENT FOCUS: BUILDING THE WOMEN’S CENTRE

We are currently developing the Namanganga Women’s Centre, a safe space for vulnerable women to access skills, support, and opportunities.

Volunteers may also contribute to this work as part of the experience.

WHO THIS IS FOR

  • Individuals and students
  • Gap year travelers
  • Families and small groups
  • Professionals seeking meaningful engagement

This experience is ideal for those looking for something real—not just travel, but connection and purpose.
