The DevelopmentAid Newsroom produces high-quality, data-driven content for professionals working across the international development sector.
We are looking for experienced journalists and associate writers to contribute analytical, well-researched editorial content to our growing team.
About the role
You will produce in-depth articles covering key trends and developments in the global aid landscape, including:
- Donor priorities, funding flows, and policy shifts
- Regional and country-level development dynamics
- Aid effectiveness, transparency, and impact
- Project implementation, compliance, and evaluation
You will collaborate closely with editors, data specialists, and fact-checking teams to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful reporting.
Contributors typically deliver 3–4 strategic articles per month, with occasional involvement in rapid-response coverage of emerging topics.
Key responsibilities
- Research and write fact-based, analytical editorial pieces
- Pitch story ideas and contribute to editorial planning
- Conduct interviews with sector experts and stakeholders
- Support urgent newsroom coverage when needed
- Prepare short summaries to support content distribution
- Follow DevelopmentAid editorial standards and Gen-AI policy
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of newsroom or journalistic experience
- Strong research skills, including working with databases and data sources
- Understanding of the international development sector (preferred)
- Excellent writing, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Clear interest in specific topics or regions within the sector
Engagement model
- Freelance / contributor-based collaboration
- Compensation per article, based on complexity and depth
- Fully remote and flexible contribution
