GOPA Tech is implementing the KfW financed project Solid Waste Management in Protected Areas in Namibia. For this we are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Namibian professional to join the project team as National Solid Waste Management Expert. The project supports the development and implementation of sustainable solid waste management systems within selected protected areas across Namibia in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) and other key stakeholders.
What you will do
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Provide technical support on solid waste management matters relevant to the project;
- Support the planning and implementation of waste management systems and infrastructure within protected areas;
- Participate in stakeholder consultations, meetings and workshops;
- Conduct site visits and field assessments as required;
- Contribute to the preparation and review of technical reports, studies and project deliverables;
- Liaise with government institutions, project stakeholders and service providers;
- Support project monitoring and implementation activities; and
- Provide technical advice and guidance to the project team.
Your qualifications
The requirements and skillset include:
- Relevant qualification in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Waste Management or a related field;
- Demonstrated professional experience in solid waste management;
- Experience in integrated solid waste management planning and implementation;
- Knowledge of waste collection systems, waste minimisation, recycling and resource recovery initiatives;
- Experience working with government institutions, municipalities, donor-funded projects or protected area management programmes;
- Strong report writing, analytical and communication skills;
- Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills;
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities;
- Valid driver's licence; and
- Must be based in Windhoek and available to work from the project office.
