How to make the most of your individual membership with DevelopmentAid - Open tenders and grants

If you are already a member of DevelopmentAid, then you will know just how lucrative the information and services that we offer can be for individual experts in search of rewarding jobs. But with so many powerful tools available, it can sometimes be daunting for experts who are trying to find out how to make the most of their DevelopmentAid membership.

In this series of articles, we will share with you the three best ways to enable individual experts to secure well-remunerated positions and job opportunities using their DevelopmentAid membership.

Open Tenders and Grants – for Individuals

Did you know that, as an individual consultant, you can work directly for donor agencies and funding organizations without being subcontracted by an implementing organization?

By using either the Tenders or Grants menu on our website, experts can view the current tenders and grants that are announced by donor agencies, many of which are open to individuals.

By tracking these daily, experts can ensure that they are among the first to apply for better-paid positions and consultancy opportunities offered by major donors such as USAID, GIZ, JICA, UKAid (FCDO), and others. Best of all, you can apply directly to the donor agency itself via email or the link provided in the Terms of Reference – no need to wait to be shortlisted by a company first!

For projects funded by a donor organization, you will be able to easily find these on DevelopmentAid without having to search through the contracting authorities’ websites.

Experts with a DevelopmentAid Professional Plus membership also have access to tenders and grants that are at the Forecast and Open stages, giving experts a real advantage over the competition.

To find grants and tenders at the Forecast or Open stages that are available for individuals, go to the appropriate menu (Grants or Tenders) and then perform an advanced search by clicking on the Advanced Filters on the toolbar. Select your sector(s), preferred location(s), and funding agencies. Select Individual in the Opportunity type drop-down menu,  then select Consulting services in Category, and click on the Search button.

It is important to remember that Tenders and Grants are not the only options to enable individual experts to find remuneration or funding for research purposes, to foster business activities, or to conduct human rights advocacy, etc. Stay tuned for our next article to learn more about how to get consulting jobs by approaching shortlisted organizations directly.
