G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy, and Environment 2023

The G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy, and Environment is one of the ministerial meetings held in conjunction with the G7 Summit, and its significance is that it forms the basis for discussions at the Summit.

In the spirit of the Paris Agreement, we will discuss the global promotion of Green Transformation (GX), and transform the entire economic, social, and industrial structure to be driven by clean energy to pursue net zero, circular and nature-positive economies in an integrated manner.

The organization will also advance discussions from various perspectives including those of countries, cities, subnational, industries, businesses, es and lifestyles, in order to promote concrete actions in all sectors and by all stakeholders. It will discuss the response to the current energy crisis, including significant price increases, due to the recent international situation.

Solving Climate, energy, and environmental issues at the same time

Pursue achievement of both net zero and economic growth, improved resource efficiency, and biodiversity conservation in an integrated manner, while ensuring energy security.

Climate and energy

  • Enhance utilization of carbon markets, green markets and finance, lifestyle changes, and international cooperation towards global net zero.
  • Strengthen global resilience including in the Asia-Pacific region in light of the progression of climate change.
  • Achieve both energy security and net-zero including by utilizing all energy sources.

Environment

  • Advance the transition to circular economies and increase resource efficiency.
  •  Lead negotiations on the plastic pollution treaty.
  • Implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
  •  Promote a nature-positive economy.
