UNRWA welcomes US$ 2 million contribution from Kuwait

The Government of Kuwait announced a contribution of US$ 2 million to UNRWA in support of Palestine Refugees. The Kuwaiti Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, H.E. Hamad Rashid Al-Marri, handed over a cheque for the contribution to the Director of External Relations and Communications, Tamara Alrifai, at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Amman.

Ambassador Al-Marri stressed that this contribution aims to strengthen UNRWA’s human development and humanitarian activities and programs in the region.

He said, “UNRWA plays a vital role in providing basic services to Palestine Refugees in its five fields of operation, including through education, health care, and social protection. Kuwait attaches great importance to UN efforts and values constructive cooperation with it to achieve the development goals in society.”

He stressed that this contribution confirms Kuwait’s firm support of the Palestinian cause and of the humanitarian situation of Palestine Refugees throughout the region.

Ms. Alrifai said. “With this annual contribution, Kuwait continues to show its steadfast support to Palestine Refugees. UNRWA is truly grateful to the Government and people of Kuwait for their generosity and solidarity. As the challenges around the refugees intensify, a long-term partnership with Kuwait can contribute to the stability of UNRWA and with it, to a sense of safety of Palestine Refugees in the region.”

UNRWA faces enormous financial challenges that threaten its ability to maintain its services. It is calling on governments, donors, and partners to continue their support to Palestine Refugees, who are almost entirely dependent on the Agency for their daily needs. The Agency is currently intensifying its efforts to cover its urgent financial needs and maintain core services until the end of the year.
