Slovenia to provide an additional EUR 650,000 in emergency support to UNRWA

UNRWA welcomes the Government of Slovenia’s contribution of EUR 500,000 for the Agency’s recent Flash Appeal for the Gaza Strip and an additional EUR 150,000 for the UNRWA Programme Budget that supports core activities such as education, health, and social protection services. This brings Slovenia’s total support to UNRWA in 2023 to EUR 800,000.

This new contribution to the Programme Budget was announced by the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs following the government’s correspondence session on 10 October 2023, stating:

“Given the recent developments in the Gaza Strip, including heavy bombardment and the rapidly deteriorating living conditions, the Slovenian Government, on the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, has pledged an additional humanitarian contribution of EUR 150,000 to UNRWA.”

By 17 October 2023, the Ministry again stepped up its support and announced an additional EUR 500,000 contribution to the Gaza Flash Appeal in an effort to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and protect human lives in Gaza.

“The Government of Slovenia’s recent contribution is extraordinary. Slovenia has stepped up its support to UNRWA from EUR 50,000 last year to EUR 800,000 in 2023. Given its economic size and overall aid budget, this contribution exemplifies Slovenia’s unwavering commitment to improving the livelihoods of Palestine Refugees in the occupied Palestinian territory, and understanding to sustain UNRWA operations on the ground in Gaza during this unprecedented crisis that only continues to escalate. UNRWA is most grateful for Slovenia’s continued support and urges fellow donor states to follow Slovenia’s example in responding to the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip,” said Karim Amer, UNRWA Director of Partnerships.
