The 2023 Asia Pacific Climate Week (APCW) will be held from 13-17 November in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, bringing together policymakers, practitioners, businesses, and civil society from Asia and the Pacific to explore solutions and raise ambition for climate action ahead of COP28. The APCW2023 will also provide region-focused contributions to inform the first Global Stocktake which will chart the way for fulfilling the Paris Agreement’s goals.

As a regional partner, ESCAP will contribute to all four tracks of APCW2023, including:

  1. Track 1. Energy systems and industry
  2. Track 2. Cities, urban and rural settlements, infrastructure and transport
  3. Track 3. Land, ocean, food, and water
  4. Track 4. Societies, health, livelihoods, and economies

During APCW 2023, ESCAP will also organize an inception meeting of the project “Enhancing investments for equitable and accelerated climate action in the post-COVID-19 recovery” which centers on strengthening policy, finance, and trade to enhance nature-based solutions (NbS) for climate action.

The Meeting will provide a platform to exchange perspectives on the role and status of regional ecosystems, as part of a nature-based solutions approach, for promoting climate mitigation and adaptation while supporting green post-COVID-19 recovery, particularly in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Maldives, and Samoa.

APCW 2023 is hosted by the government of Malaysia, organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Bank, with support from regional partners including ESCAP, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), and UN Global Compact Network Malaysia and Brunei (UNGCMYB).
