Working with the Caribbean Development Bank: Climate and Infrastructure

📅 24 January 2024
Virtual

The Caribbean Development Bank’s Environmental Sustainability unit will provide an update on their regional leadership of climate initiatives and an overview of procurement guidelines with the CDB.

The Caribbean is the most exposed region to climate-related natural disasters, with the estimation of necessary adaptation investment ranging above a third of its annual economic output. International bodies such as the IPCC continue to highlight the region’s vulnerability to climate change and its potential to fundamentally undermine the development of the region.

In the Caribbean, extreme weather and climate events significantly impact economic performance, productivity, livelihoods, and quality of life. Caribbean countries are encountering difficulties adapting to declining freshwater availability and rising sea levels (and associated increases in coastal erosion, flooding, and saltwater intrusion of freshwater aquifers).

The Caribbean Development Bank is committed to supporting Borrowing Member Countries to reduce inequality, improve social and economic conditions, and safeguard against the climate crisis through supporting inclusive and sustainable growth in tandem with good governance.

The CDB is an important multilateral partner for the UK, delivering a range of the UK’s development objectives across the Caribbean. With its core goal to reduce inequality and halve extreme poverty in its borrowing member countries by 2025, the CDB pipeline includes a broad range of opportunities for UK consultants.
