Intersection of Climate Change, Gender-Based Violence and other Harmful Practices

📅 06 February 2024
Online

Women and girls can be disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis as it serves to intensify pre-existing inequalities, acting as a threat multiplier and escalating social, political, and economic tensions in already fragile settings.

Women and girls face heightened vulnerabilities to all forms of gender-based violence and other harmful practices, and as climate change further impedes the stability, protection, and livelihoods of women, so too does it increase their vulnerable position. This threatens the livelihoods, safety, health, and security of women and girls around the world, particularly in developing countries which may lack the systems, capacity, and resources to safeguard women and girls.

In addressing these issues, it is necessary to take a focused approach to ensure the proper support systems are in place and impacts reach the most vulnerable. The panel will showcase how they are adapting their approach in response to climate change across their programs and interventions.

The BEI ‘Intersections with Climate Change’ event series brings a focus on the intersections of climate change remediation and adaptation with other development priorities. Each event provides a platform for dialogue between experts and aims to highlight the issues and potential solutions, providing a platform for members and their key stakeholders to showcase the work they are conducting in these spaces and the remedies they are developing in these key intersections.

In this session, British Expertise will showcase the impact being achieved by international development organizations in the nexus of climate change, gender-based violence, and other harmful practices.
