Concern Worldwide utilizes emergency fund to deliver life-saving aid in Gaza

Concern Worldwide announced it has allocated $250,000 from its Emergency Fund to deliver life-saving aid to those in Gaza facing unprecedented food shortages and famine-like conditions.

The entire population of Gaza, approximately 2.23 million people, is facing acute food insecurity and critical water shortages, with 85% of the population displaced. Approximately half of the population is estimated to be facing catastrophic food shortages with more than 50,000 children under five acutely malnourished.

The funds released from Concern’s Emergency Fund will be used to support partner organization, CESVI, which has a long-established presence in Gaza. Both Concern and CESVI are members of the European network of non-governmental organizations, Alliance2015.

The partnership will deliver life-saving aid to meet the immediate needs of the most affected populations, providing nutrition, non-food items (NFIs), and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programming to deliver:

  • An additional 7 tons of therapeutic food, which is enough to treat 800-900 children, on top of the 19 tons already distributed across 7 clinics.
  • The trucking of 50,000 liters of water daily and the procurement of 210 water containers to deliver to operational schools and community facilities, supporting 1,200 households.
  • NFIs and hygiene kits, as well as conducting hygiene promotion activities and awareness campaigns.

With 1.9 million people – a whopping 85% of the population of Gaza – forced to flee their homes, the water, sanitation, and hygiene support being delivered through Concern’s Emergency Fund is urgently needed.

Concern’s Emergency Fund is an always-on approach to collect and deploy funds and deliver critical life-saving aid to families from the frontlines of conflict in Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan to the devastation of natural disasters following the Pakistan Floods and the Türkiye-Syria earthquake.
