Unpacking ODA: Global and National Perspectives | Webinar

Official Development Assistance (ODA) is a crucial source of finance for global poverty reduction efforts, particularly in countries with limited fiscal space. It encompasses financial aid provided by governments and other official agencies to support sustainable development and address pressing global challenges such as health, education and climate change. Over the past few years, ODA has constantly increased, amounting to a record high of US$223.7 billion in 2023. The effective use and strategic allocation of these funds are vital to ensuring that ODA achieves its objectives and reaches those most in need.

This webinar, presented in collaboration with Development Initiatives, a global organisation harnessing the power of data and evidence to end poverty, reduce inequality and increase resilience, will provide an in-depth analysis of the latest ODA data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Development Assistance Committee (OECD DAC). It will also cover the challenges of the current ODA reporting rules and how these have changed the nature of international assistance, and also present unique research on ODA in the health and agriculture sectors in Ethiopia, highlighting the importance of aligning aid with national development priorities.
