The UNESCO-IOC and BMKG are organizing the 2nd UNESCO-IOC Global Tsunami Symposium: Reflection of the Two Decades of the Indian Ocean Tsunami 2004. The symposium will bring together scientists, researchers, engineers, practitioners, and policy-makers from all over the globe to discuss the state of the art and the latest advancements on tsunami science, engineering, and early warning system for better tsunami disaster preparedness and mitigation.
Objectives:
In commemoration of 2 decades after the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the symposium overall objectives are:
- To reflect what has been achieved by each regional tsunami warning and mitigation system in two decades.
- To identify gaps, challenges and priorities for tsunami early warning.
- To identify synergy with global challenges and coherence with global commitments especially the UN Decade for
- Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
- Share learnings from countries of the different region as the coordination of the regional tsunami early warning systems.
Events
- Pre-Event (8β10 November 2024): International Scientific Workshop hosted by IABI in collaboration with USK-TDRMC.
- Main Event (11β14 November 2024): the 2nd UNESCO-IOC Global Tsunami Symposium.
- Special Event: Posters Sessions, Exhibitions, Ignite Stages, Tsunami United, Drawing Competition, and Open Access Edited UNESCO IOC Book.
