Islamic Relief is preparing to respond as heavy rainfall brings widespread damage and disruption to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Local authorities report that at least 23 people have died, and more than a dozen people remain unaccounted for. Hundreds of families have been impacted in Jablanica, Konjic, and Fojnica.
The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina has declared a state of emergency. Roads have been significantly affected, with bridges and railway tracks being washed away or blocked by debris.
Severe flooding has displaced families and made roads inaccessible Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, and the death toll is expected to rise as teams use machinery to remove debris to rescue survivors. The scale of destruction means rescue teams have not yet been able to reach some villages.
Islamic Relief has been working in Bosnia and Herzegovina for over 30 years. The organization will provide essential items to affected families.
