The 8th Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (HSR2024), one of the top global health symposiums organized bi-annually, will be held in Nagasaki, Japan in November 2024. It will be co-hosted by Health System Global (HSG), Alliance for Health System Research (HPSR), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Nagasaki University.
As part of ADBâs strategic partnership with the government of Japan and JICA in global health areas such as emergency preparedness, universal health coverage, climate change, and health, ADB is a âgold-level supporterâ and a member of the local organizing committee member.
The overall theme of the conference is âBuilding Just and Sustainable Health Systems: Centering People and Protecting the Planetâ.
It features four (4) sub-themes under this overall theme:
- Sub-Theme 1: Strengthening Health Systems for Planetary Health
- Sub-Theme 2: Advancing justice, inclusion, and belonging in health systems, in times of peace and conflict
- Sub-Theme 3: Health governance, policy and institutional frameworks for just and sustainable health systems
- Sub-Theme 4: Knowledge of just health systems
HSR2024 will be an opportunity for developing member countries (DMCs) and ADB staff to share knowledge and learn from each other in climate-sensitive health systems and services, tropical medicine, and health financing.
Each symposium aims to:
- Share new state-of-the-art evidence;
- Review the progress and challenges towards implementation of the global agenda of priority research;
- Identify and discuss the approaches to strengthen the scientific rigor of health systems research including concepts, frameworks, measures, and methods; and
- Facilitate greater research collaboration and learning communities across disciplines, sectors, initiatives, and countries.
