Business Opportunities at the United Nations

On November 15-16, 2016, Bonn, Germany, hosted the very first international procurement seminar organized by the German-Italian Chamber of Commerce, the German-American Chamber of Commerce, and the German-Danish Chamber of Commerce in coordination with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The seminar, entitled, “IPS – International Procurement Seminar”, was sponsored by BMWi, and gave German and international suppliers the opportunity to learn about available business opportunities working with United Nations agencies, including FAO, WHO, IFAD, UNV, UNDP, UNRWA, UNFCCC, UN PD, UNHCR, UNOPS, and UNICEF. Procurement officers from several United Nations agencies were on hand to network with buyers and suppliers.

The event was held at the United Nations campus in Bonn, Germany, and featured an introduction by Luigi Ferrara, a Purchasing and Procurement Officer for the FAO, and introductions by Joachim Steffens, head of Unit VD1 and Development Policy at the United Nations, and Jorg Buck, the CEO of the German-Italian Chamber of Commerce. A special presentation entitled, “An hour in the shoes of the UN,” was given by Isabelle Dupuy, team leader of Management Services for the UNPD. Representatives for more than 250 companies attended the event, including DevelopmentAid.

UN representatives in their speeches made references to DevelopmentAid as a tender tracking system where they advertise UN tenders. This gave an opportunity to the companies to get in direct contact with DevelopmentAid representatives present at the seminar, Mariana Uzun, Senior Business Development Manager and Olesea Vareaghin, Business Development Manager. DevelopmentAid highly recommends its members as well as any company/supplier to attend similar seminars initiated by UN as it provides a unique opportunity to present your products/services directly to UN and to establish long term business contacts.
