ILO and Korea team up for ASEAN construction skills

The International Labour Organization is collaborating with Korea to help young people in Southeast Asia learn the digital and green skills they need for construction jobs, according to an ILO announcement. The new program will train ASEAN youth in skills that construction companies are looking for as the industry goes digital and green. The goal is to make young workers more employable while helping transform how buildings get built.

Construction work is changing fast across Southeast Asia. Companies need workers who understand both new technology and eco-friendly building methods. Many young people struggle to find good jobs because they don’t have these skills yet.

The ILO will officially launch the program in Manila, working with Korea’s embassy in the Philippines. The Department of Labor and Employment will give the main speech about how construction work is evolving and what that means for training workers. Officials from the ILO, ASEAN construction groups, the Philippines’ skills training agency TESDA, and local construction and union groups will also speak. The event will explain exactly how the program works and who it will help.

This partnership builds on Korea’s experience with both digital technology and green building practices. Young construction workers who complete the training should have better chances of landing jobs in a sector that’s moving toward cleaner, more tech-savvy building methods.
