The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) have agreed to work together to help countries build safer roads, bridges, and power lines, according to a press release. The two groups signed this deal at a big meeting in Seville, where leaders talked about how to spend more on disaster risk programs.
UNDRR and CDRI have already teamed up before. Together, they made tools and guides that let countries test if their infrastructure can handle storms or earthquakes. Places like Bhutan, Chile, Madagascar, and Tonga have used these guides to spot weak spots and plan repairs.
Kamal Kishore from UNDRR said this new deal “will help countries turn risk knowledge into action, protecting communities and development gains.” He added that it is important to plan and invest with disaster risks in mind.
Under the new program, the two groups will share tools, offer training, and give advice that’s simple to use. They also want to help governments use these ideas on the ground, not just in reports.
The plan is clear: help more countries check their public works, learn from each other, and fix problems before the next disaster hits. By working together, UNDRR and CDRI hope to show that smart planning saves lives and keeps communities strong.
