AIIB and BTG Pactual launch $160 million green fund in Brazil

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has teamed up with BTG Pactual, Latin America’s largest investment bank, to provide a $160 million loan facility over seven years. This partnership will help BTG Pactual fund infrastructure projects in Brazil that focus on climate-friendly development. According to AIIB, this is its biggest private-sector deal in Brazil and the first with BTG Pactual, highlighting a growing effort to support sustainable investments in the region.

Gregory Liu, AIIB’s Director General for Financial Institutions, said the loan strengthens AIIB’s work in Latin America and shows their commitment to bringing in private money for green projects. “This deal is a key step as we back markets with strong climate potential,” Liu said.

Roberto Sallouti, CEO of BTG Pactual, said the partnership reflects a shared goal of supporting moves toward a low-carbon economy. “Working with AIIB helps us focus on areas that need the most help during this transition,” he said.

The loan supports AIIB’s plan to have half of its financing focused on climate projects by 2025 and to raise private investment, especially in emerging markets. It also grows AIIB’s presence in Latin America by working with top financial groups pushing sustainable growth.
