NGO Budget Monitoring Essentials

📅 17 September – 14 October 2025
Online

Explore a variety of practical NGO budget monitoring tools and techniques you can use to manage projects internally as well as share externally for donor reporting. From budget comparisons to variance analysis to forecasting, you’ll learn how to work with a complete financial toolkit.

Plus, you will have the opportunity to apply the skills to a real-life case study for experiential learning. At the end of the five weeks, you’ll have a library of recommended NGO budget monitoring tools and techniques — and the confidence to use them.

What you will learn

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Compare a project budget with actual performance
  • Calculate variance and grant usage percentages to assess progress compared to plan
  • Analyze budget variances using a three-criteria model
  • Create a Variance Analysis Table to identify significant differences and follow up actions
  • Create a project budget forecast report

How you will learn

Humentum’s self-guided, flexible online trainings provide hands-on learning through engaging videos, assignments, and readings. Participants can connect and engage with peers around the world, all while an expert facilitator is available to answer your questions. The platform is user-friendly and available for a set duration, allowing learners to work at their own pace. Each week, new modules become available as you earn points by completing tasks like watching videos, reviewing resources, and interacting with others. The training consists of four modules and estimated to require three hours per module, depending on the learner’s pace and prior experience.
