The World Bank Group appointed Carlos Felipe Jaramillo as Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific Region, effective September 15, overseeing partnerships with 23 countries and managing an active portfolio worth over $32 billion, according to a World Bank announcement. He will be based in Singapore, which becomes the new regional hub as the Bank moves closer to clients.
Jaramillo brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across multiple regions. Since 2020, he led Latin America and Caribbean operations during the Bank’s largest-ever regional crisis response across 31 countries. Previously, he managed over 80 projects worth more than $12 billion covering five African nations and led the global Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment practice with 450+ economists.
The Colombian economist holds a PhD from Stanford University and worked in his country’s Finance Ministry, Central Bank, and Trade Ministry. “East Asia and the Pacific remains a global engine of growth, technology and innovation,” Jaramillo said, emphasizing his focus on energy, human capital, and digitalization.
