EDAP TMS, a global leader in robotic, energy-based therapeutic technologies, has secured a €36 million credit facility from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to expand its Focal One Robotic High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound platform and develop new clinical uses, according to a press release. The financing, backed by InvestEU, will help the company meet growing demand for non-invasive treatment options for cancer and other conditions.

EDAP plans to draw the first €11 million tranche in the fourth quarter of 2025. The Lyon-based company makes robotic HIFU technology that treats prostate cancer and endometriosis without surgery, using focused ultrasound to target diseased tissue while leaving healthy areas intact. It’s an alternative that more patients are looking for as they try to avoid invasive procedures.

Ryan Rhodes, EDAP’s CEO, said the credit facility gives the company crucial growth capital to expand Focal One worldwide. EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle said the bank was happy to back EDAP’s development, noting that health and life sciences are a key priority for the institution.

The loan comes in three tranches that unlock as EDAP hits certain milestones. The first is €11 million at 8 percent interest, the second €12 million at 7 percent, and the third €13 million at 6 percent. EDAP will also issue warrants to the EIB for each tranche, giving the bank the right to buy preferred shares.

Each tranche has a five-year repayment term starting from when the money is released. The deal shows EDAP’s push to keep innovating in urological and gynecological care, bringing new robotic HIFU technologies to market.
