EIB donates €750,000 for Gaza medical relief

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is donating €750,000 to help deliver medical care and nutrition support in Gaza, with children and other vulnerable groups getting priority, the EIB announced. The funds will be managed by two international NGOs – Welthungerhilfe and CARE—both of which have established networks and supply chains on the ground.

The donation comes as Gaza faces ongoing humanitarian needs following the recent conflict. Children, who make up more than half the population in Gaza, have been hit especially hard. The money will pay for lifesaving health services, including screening and treatment for severe malnutrition in children, disease prevention, and care for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

EIB President Nadia Calviño said the donation shows solidarity with Palestinians and aligns with EU efforts to get humanitarian aid where it’s needed. “We stand with those most affected. Delivering urgent medical and nutritional support through trusted partners,” she said. EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti, who oversees the Middle East region, added that the goal is to help humanitarian partners bring relief to people suffering the most.

The EIB recently signed a separate €400 million financing facility with the Palestine Monetary Authority aimed at helping small and medium-sized Palestinian businesses recover. That’s part of the European Commission’s larger Palestinian Recovery and Resilience Programme, which totals up to €1.6 billion over 2025–2027.

Last year, the EIB Institute donated €250,000 through Welthungerhilfe for health and nutrition work in Gaza, reaching about 90,000 people with healthcare services and over 7,500 with emergency food. The EIB Institute has also provided emergency relief in Ukraine, Turkey, Syria, Morocco, Slovenia, and Spain. The bank says it will apply strict checks to disbursement, with no funds released until partner organizations pass all required reviews.
