CABEI and Green Climate Fund grant $25 million for climate adaptation in Central America

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) have granted $25 million in credit to help micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Central America adapt to climate change, according to a official release. The funding, provided through the Productive Investments for Climate Change Adaptation Initiative (CAMBio II), has now been fully allocated. MSMEs in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras investing in climate adaptation have benefited from the resources, split evenly between CABEI and GCF.

The achievement is more than hitting a financial target—it shows CABEI and GCF’s commitment to small and medium businesses in Central America. By pooling resources and expertise, both institutions are backing their belief that these enterprises are key players in the fight against climate change.

With the credit now fully placed, the CAMBio II Program will focus on training the companies that received funding and distributing grants for technical help and adaptation awards. The goal is to make sure each investment creates real and lasting impact. This marks the start of a shift that puts MSMEs at the center of resilient and sustainable economic development in the region.
