World Bank and Qatar Fund join forces to boost jobs and recovery

The World Bank and the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) have signed a new partnership to boost job creation, support reconstruction, and drive recovery efforts in developing and conflict-affected countries, the World Bank announced. The agreement was formalized at the opening of the World Bank Group’s new office in Doha, marking a major step in expanding cooperation between the two institutions.

The new office—established in collaboration with Qatar’s Ministry of Finance and hosted at QFFD headquarters—will strengthen the World Bank’s engagement with Qatar’s public and private sectors while supporting the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. It will also serve as a regional platform to help channel Qatari investment into emerging markets across the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.

“This milestone reflects Qatar’s long-standing commitment to working with leading international institutions to advance sustainable development programmes,” said Fahad Hamad Al-Sulaiti, Director General of QFFD. “It aligns with our efforts to promote resilience and inclusive growth in line with our national vision.”

The partnership focuses on innovative financing and mobilizing both public and private resources for long-term economic recovery, particularly in countries hit by fragility, conflict, or climate shocks. Priority areas include human capital, energy and mining, agribusiness, and digital development—sectors that are key to job creation and stability.

World Bank President Ajay Banga said the collaboration builds on shared priorities and complementary strengths.

“Together, we can create pathways to employment and opportunity in places where jobs are vital for lasting peace and prosperity,” he said.

Under the agreement, the two partners will explore joint support for major World Bank initiatives, including the M-300 programme to help bring electricity to 300 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa and the AgriConnect platform, which aims to improve the livelihoods of 250 million smallholder farmers worldwide.

The partnership cements Qatar’s position as a growing hub for international development and finance, while reinforcing the World Bank’s mandate to promote inclusive growth through global cooperation and innovation.
