The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is lending up to €13.7 million to Alumil Misr — the Egyptian subsidiary of Greek manufacturer ALUMIL SA — to build a new aluminium extrusion line at its plant in Cairo’s Polaris Industrial Zone, the bank said. The move will significantly expand the facility’s output and sharpen its ability to supply construction and industrial markets across Africa and the Middle East.

ALUMIL produces architectural aluminium systems across 10 sites worldwide, serving more than 60 countries. Its Egyptian plant sits close to the Suez Canal, giving it a natural advantage as a regional export base. The new line is expected to cut supply-chain lead times, lift production to European quality standards, and reduce the company’s dependence on imports — all part of a wider push to build regional manufacturing hubs in fast-growing markets.

“Through this investment, we are strengthening local manufacturing, advancing private-sector development and enhancing industrial competitiveness across the region,” said Mark Davis, the EBRD’s Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean.

ALUMIL Chairman and CEO George Mylonas called the EBRD partnership “instrumental” in building the company’s long-term industrial footprint in Egypt.

Egypt has been part of the EBRD’s portfolio since the bank first began operating there in 2012, with more than €14.2 billion committed across 221 projects since then — making it one of the institution’s most active markets in the region.
