From interest to award: Practical guidance on winning MDB contracts

An invitation to attend the Eurasian Development Bank annual meeting 2026

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) annual meeting and business forum 2026 is an open platform for organizations looking to increase their presence on the continent and secure new funding opportunities in the next few years. This year, DevelopmentAid will host a session during the event for organizations interested in learning practical answers from multilateral development banks (MDBs) to help them to increase their competitiveness.

The theme for this year’s EDB meeting will be “Eurasia 2030+: Investment, Growth, and New Opportunities.”

Across Eurasia, multilateral development banks such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) are scaling up their projects which is creating a pipeline of upcoming opportunities for contractors. Strategic directions targeted by future investments include green infrastructure, cross-border connectivity, private sector mobilization, energy transition, climate-resilient infrastructure, agriculture, and trade development.

Together, these aligned strategies signal a growing volume of projects, opening entry points for businesses and development stakeholders across the region.

The DevelopmentAid team will be on hand during both days of the forum and will host a session for organizations interested in gaining practical answers from the three banks, AIIB, ADB, and IDB, to help them to increase their competitiveness, learn more from other companies about their previous and current experiences working with MDBs, and assist anyone interested in the opportunity to directly interact with key procurement officers from MDBs

Meet us in Almaty! During the DevelopmentAid-led session, you will learn:

  • How to identify early-stage opportunities in MDB pipelines.
  • The procurement rules and evaluation criteria across various institutions.
  • Common pitfalls: eligibility, co-financing, compliance, conflict of interest.
  • How to structure competitive bids and consortia.
  • Real insights into what makes companies win.
  • How to leverage data, intelligence, and partnerships .

The speakers’ line-up for the session hosted by DevelopmentAid includes well-known MDBs: the ADB, the IDB, the AIIB, and the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD). The title of the session is “From interest to award: practical guidance for companies competing in MDB-Financed Projects.”

DevelopmentAid will be represented by Mariana Bastron and Cristina Burcovschi-Tcaci.

Mariana is an international business strategist with more than 13 years of experience and is currently the head of the Strategic Partnerships and Donors’ Relations Unit. Cristina has more than 10 years of experience and is currently the chief assistant of the Strategic Partnerships and Donors’ Relations Unit.

Together, they have extensive experience in topics such as handling countrywide arrangements, membership funds for donors and their contracting authorities, as well as working with executing agents worldwide.

“I highly recommend that DevelopmentAid members attend this summit in person because it’s a fantastic opportunity to hear from representatives of the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank about how procurement really works behind the scenes,” explained Mariana Bastron.

“I’m really looking forward to hosting our deal-focused session because this is the best way to help organizations to navigate the intricacies of and win MDB-funded projects,” added Cristina Burcovschi-Tcaci. “Plus, it’s a great way to meet with other organizations working in this space and learn from their experience.”

At the end of the session, we will randomly choose three attendees to benefit from a one-year DevelopmentAid membership. The winners will be drawn from a designated bowl into which participants can place their business cards.

We warmly welcome all organizations wishing to learn more about the EDB and the protocols, business opportunities, and bid-winning strategies of other regional MDBs to join us in Almaty! You can register for the annual meeting and business forum here.
