The Board of Executive Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved $280 million in Multiple Works Financing (GOM) to improve provincial roads and urban access routes in Argentina’s Entre Ríos Province. The operation aims to contribute to productive development, trade, and regional connectivity, according to a press release by the IDB. The decision was announced on May 28, 2026, from Washington. The financing reinforces the IDB’s engagement with subnational infrastructure in Argentina. It also supports the country’s broader regional integration agenda.
The financing forms part of the IDB Group’s regional South Connection program, designed to improve connectivity, strengthen competitiveness, and promote sustainable growth in South America. Within this initiative, the IDB supports subnational projects that foster integration by strengthening strategic corridors across the region. Entre Ríos Province has been identified as a key node for productive development and trade. The program aligns provincial investment with regional integration objectives. It also underscores the IDB’s focus on resilient infrastructure.
The project will finance the reconstruction and comprehensive rehabilitation of strategic provincial roads and urban bypasses along segments with heavy truck traffic. It will improve access and circulation conditions across the local road network. The program will also strengthen the institutional capacities of the provincial government for road management. Hydraulic interventions will be financed to improve drainage and reduce vulnerability to flooding. These interventions complement the road works.
“This operation reflects our commitment to promoting more resilient and efficient infrastructure that can support the productive development of Entre Ríos and strengthen regional integration,” said Viviana Alva Hart, the IDB Group’s representative in Argentina. “Improving roads not only facilitates trade and logistics, but also enhances quality of life and access to opportunities for thousands of people,” she added.
The project will additionally fund the implementation of a Road Asset Management System and an Infrastructure Management System. This will drive a shift toward data-based network management and long-term planning. The measure is expected to generate lasting impacts for efficient public spending and sustainability of investments.
The IDB financing of $280 million has a repayment term of 21.5 years, a grace period of 9 years, and an interest rate based on SOFR. The terms reflect the long-term nature of the road and infrastructure works to be implemented. The operation consolidates the IDB’s support for Entre Ríos within the South Connection program. It pairs physical investment with institutional strengthening for sustainable road management. The approval marks a further step in advancing Argentina’s regional integration through provincial infrastructure.
