The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has released its Sustainable Development Bonds Impact Report 2025, showing how a decade of investment in sustainable infrastructure is delivering impact for people, communities, and economies across Asia and beyond, according to a press release issued in Beijing on July 27, 2026. In 2025, AIIB approved USD10.6 billion in financing for 57 projects. Of the total approved regular financing, 71% was dedicated to climate-positive outcomes, up from 67% the previous year. The report introduces a stronger focus on achieved results, complementing expected outcomes. It also connects capital raised in global markets with development impact.
AIIB began operations in 2016 and now has 111 approved members worldwide. The Bank is capitalized at USD100 billion and holds AAA ratings from major international credit rating agencies. It collaborates with partners to mobilize capital and invest in infrastructure and other productive sectors. Its mission focuses on financing “Infrastructure for Tomorrow,” with sustainability at its core. The report reflects a decade of progress since AIIB’s founding.
Project examples include AIIB’s investments in climate resilient and inclusive roads in Côte d’Ivoire, the first hospital under Kazakhstan’s public-private partnership program, and climate-adaptive water management across Cambodia’s Pursat and Sangker river basins. A flagship example of achieved results is Indonesia’s National Slum Upgrading Project, which reached 8.66 million people against a 7 million target, including 4.4 million women. In 2025, the Bank completed its largest borrowing program to date, raising USD10.2 billion across 13 currencies. This included the first public-format Hong Kong dollar bond by an international issuer. It also featured three fixed rate US-dollar benchmark bonds priced across the curve in a single year and a second Climate Adaptation Bond.
“AIIB has grown from an ambitious idea into a bank that delivers tangible impact for our members and their people,” AIIB President Zou Jiayi said. “As we begin our second decade, we will keep building a future where development and sustainability go hand in hand.”
AIIB Acting Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Domenico Nardelli added that the proceeds from these bonds go toward green, social, and sustainable projects. He said the report is how the Bank shows investors, dollar for dollar, what that financing delivers. Both statements underscore the connection between capital raised and results achieved.
Across the wider portfolio, projects approved through 2025 are expected to eventually avoid 35 million tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions annually. They are also expected to extend improved health facilities and services to 274 million people. In addition, they aim to provide over 25 million people with improved access to safely managed drinking water. The report positions these outcomes as central to AIIB’s second decade of operations. It reaffirms the Bank’s focus on sustainable infrastructure across Asia and beyond.
