Forty trainees, including staff from institutions working in the fields of food quality and safety management and support services in South Sudan, and small-scale agro-food processing business operators, food traders and consumers, took part in a training course in good practices for quality and safety of food as part of a project being implemented in South Sudan by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

All participants of the course received certificates from Moses Hassan Ayet Tiel, the Minister for Trade, Industry and East African Community Affairs of the Republic of South Sudan.

The two-day course was linked to the project “Increased resilience and self-help capacities for reconstruction of livelihoods and sustained nutritional food security in South Sudan”, which is funded by the Government of Japan.

In February, representatives of different institutes went through a special capacity-building course and became trainers. This allowed them to deliver the new course in May, helping increase the production of quality food products that are processed and traded in and improve services for quality and safety of food and marketing.

During the course, participants also familiarized themselves with the latest guidelines on “Import and export of goods including processed foods and food products” prepared with the help of UNIDO.
