German development bank KfW has agreed to provide financing of 14.2 million euro ($16.7 million) for the construction of a water purification plant and collector in the municipality of Vranje, in southern Serbia, the Serbian government said.
The project will solve the sewerage problems in the suburban settlements and villages in the municipality, the government quoted the mayor of Vranje, Slobodan Milenkovic, as saying in a statement on June 12.
“Overall, we are investing about 250 million euro through the KfW programme in the development of communal infrastructure in Serbia, including ongoing projects and those that begin this year,” Serbian infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said in the statement.
KfW has provided financing with a combined value of about 1 billion euro for environmental projects in Serbia since 2000, the German ambassador to Serbia, Axel Dittmann, said.
