Canada announces $7.5 million for OPCW Centre for Chemistry and Technology

On June 27, 2018, Canada announced a contribution of $7.5 million over three years towards the OPCW’s new Centre for Chemistry and Technology.

This contribution underscores Canada’s unambiguous commitment to combat threats of chemical weapons use and to meaningfully support global efforts to pursue accountability for atrocities caused by chemical weapons. It will support existing chemical weapons institutional mechanisms, including the OPCW’s Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) and Declaration Assessment Team (DAT), as well as the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights’ International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM).

The contribution shows Canada’s commitment to multilateralism, the defense of a rules-based international order, the integrity of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the pursuit of accountability in Syria.
