Lake Chad is the fourth largest lake in Africa and the largest in West and Central Africa. It enjoys exceptional biodiversity and cultural heritage. However, this common good is under threat from a declining surface area, weakened and altered ecosystems, conflicts over resources, inequalities, etc.
In response, UNESCO and the Lake Chad Basin Commission are joining forces through the BIOPALT project: an integrated response to the challenges of safeguarding and promoting peace in the Lake Chad Basin.
