The IsDB provides US$1million Emergency Relief Grant to Indonesia

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has approved and provided the amount of US$1million through an Emergency Relief Grant Operation to support the ongoing relief and recovery efforts in the affected areas of Sulawesi, Indonesia, following the earthquake the struck on 28 September 2018. The financing will go towards covering essential emergency items, including water, medicine, medical staff, food supplies, and temporary shelters, to aid the relief and recovery of the affected areas.

His Excellency, Dr. Bandar Hajjar, President of the IsDB said, “I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to the people of Indonesia, in light of the earthquake and devastation that struck Central Sulawesi on 28th September. I have been following, with deep sorrow, the tragic developments and associated devastation ensuing from the earthquake, and our thoughts are with the families of the deceased and those whose lives have been devastated. As well as approving this emergency response package to facilitate the ongoing relief and recovery activities, I am also pleased to offer our pledge to work in the recovery phase, in close coordination with the concerned line ministries and the national and provincial agencies”.

The Government of Indonesia has expressed its need for external support to cope with and overcome the disaster situation; the support of the IsDB will help provide much-needed relief and support to thousands of affected and suffering families

This announcement comes as the Islamic Development Bank joined the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) meeting at the Global Infrastructure Forum 2018 in Bali, Indonesia, where all MDBs reaffirmed their commitment to work together to deliver infrastructure that is resilient, inclusive, and sustainable.
