After heavy rains flooded areas of in Jangwani, Tanzania, an unplanned neighborhood near the city center early in 2018, killing 15 people and destroying critical infrastructure; the Tanzanian government, along with the World Bank and development partners began working with local communities to design a more resilient river basin.

The Tanzania Urban Resilience Program involved the community to design a basin investment program that includes a city park, housing and commercial development.

The initiative is producing a flood model that can be used to design sustainable flood control infrastructure.
