EBRD approves financing concept for Bosnia-Croatia gas link project

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved the financing concept for the construction of a gas pipeline linking Bosnia to Croatia, Bosnian monopoly BH Gas said.

The approval came after a Comprehensive Cost and Benefit Analysis (CBA), which confirmed that the project is entirely justified.

BH Gas has used two grants of 141,000 euro ($162,000) and 1.0 million euro from the European Union through the CONNECTA programme for the preparation of the cost analysis and the conceptual design of the project, respectively, the company said.

Moreover, a $500,000 grant was provided by USAID for financing the environmental impact study on the project named South Interconnection of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.

The planned construction of an interconnection along the Zagvozd – Posusje – Novi Travnik – Travnik route would ensure the safety of natural gas supply to existing consumers in Bosnia’s Federation entity and the country as a whole, BH Gas said earlier this year.

The project, which received the status of Project of Mutual Interest (PMI) by the Energy Community in 2016, is planned to be commissioned by 2023. The pipeline will become part of the EU’s Gas Ring.
