UNESCO’s three-day celebration of World Philosophy Day 2018

UNESCO’s three-day celebration of World Philosophy Day 2018

World Philosophy Day, 15 November, will be celebrated by UNESCO from 14 to 16 November through a rich programme, which includes the Night of Philosophy at the Organization’s Headquarters from 7 pm on 16 November to 7 am on 17 November.

Building on the successful turnout of Philosophy Night, held for the first time at UNESCO two years ago, the nocturnal event will be an encounter between philosophy, art and the general public. In a convivial atmosphere that favors an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas, the event will bring together 48 philosophers from all over the world, along with 12 artists. Love will be one of the night’s themes in a contemporary re-enactment of Plato’s Symposion, half a century after the youth revolution of 1968.

Other notable events at UNESCO in Paris will include:

  • The 17th International Conference on New Philosophical Practices
  • Café philosophique discussion
  • Presentation of the latest issue of the International Women Philosophers’ Journal
  • Presentation of the outcome of the digitization of the sound archives of the Paris-based Collège international de philosophie

World Philosophy Day is also celebrated by events across the globe, among them the 11th edition of the Ciudad de las Ideas organized by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Andrés Roemer in partnership with UNESCO, in Puebla, Mexico, from 16 to 18 November.
