NIB and the Swedish real estate company Intea Fastigheter AB have signed a nine-year loan agreement of SEK 500 million (EUR 48.58 million) to finance in part the construction of a new campus for Linnaeus University in Kalmar.

The new campus will house the university library, lecture rooms, offices, and laboratories.

The facility is designed to be energy-efficient. Seawater will be used for cooling purposes and photovoltaic cells will be installed on the roof for renewable energy generation. The facility is to be certified in accordance with the Gold standard under the LEED green building rating system.

“The new campus will provide state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities for Linnaeus University, including facilities for research on the marine environment of the Baltic Sea. Investments in higher education are one of the best ways to boost the development of human capital, technical progress, and innovation”, says Henrik Normann, NIB President & CEO.

Construction started in 2016, and the first phase of the project was completed in 2018. The final construction phase is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
