Today’s interviewee in our blockchain-related series of interviews from the ‘Blockchain for Development: The Future Now’ Forum is Alastair Marke, Regional Director for Western Europe at the Blockchain Commission for Sustainable Development.

The Blockchain Commission was established in September 2017 in response to the need to develop a multi-sectoral framework by which the United Nations and its specialized agencies, member states, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs and private sector-led organizations can come together to develop local, national and global blockchain-based solutions to the most pressing issues of our day. The UN Blockchain Commission for Sustainable Development members are blockchain leaders from all over the world. Since its inception, the commission has been actively promoting the application of blockchain technology in various projects, including the implementation of blockchain technology research and development initiatives. We talked to Alastair about the current blockchain initiatives on UN’s agenda, the sectors which already benefit from blockchain-based solutions and the challenges the commission is working to overcome.
